As Design Strategist, I led the system-driven redesign of the Google Nest Thermostat and its companion app to create a high-end, intuitive, and emotionally intelligent user experience. Over a 10-week sprint, I defined the visual and interaction strategy, developing a scalable design system built on consistency, clarity, and modularity. From moodboard analysis to layout grids, component libraries, and color tokens, every design choice ensured seamless integration across physical and digital touchpoints.

I directed the creation of interactive mid-to-high fidelity prototypes in Figma and guided user testing through A/B experiments, SUS surveys, and interviews, validating usability and refining emotional resonance. The outcome was a cohesive and elevated interface that transformed climate control from a purely functional task into a frictionless, human-centered, and delightful smart home experience.

Challenge

Microsoft Word’s dense toolbars, inconsistent formatting logic, & low discoverability increased cognitive load. Users felt lost, relied on hidden shortcuts, and struggled to work efficiently without making formatting mistakes, dealing with inconsistencies.

Approach

We conducted research and synthesis to redesign Word’s core writing flow using intent-based toolbars, clearer hierarchy, and progressive disclosure; simplifying discovery while preserving advanced power-user functionality through smart defaults.

Result

The redesign significantly reduced time to find features, lowered formatting errors, and increased engagement. Users experienced clearer workflows, faster writing, and greater trust in formatting actions without sacrificing flexibility or control.
